Rock, Paper, Scissors are photographic sculptures, displayed in deep box frames. The photographs are of rocks from Newfoundland, Canada. These images have been carefully cut and have become 3D objects, fragile and delicate, balancing precariously inside the frames, contained and trapped.
The installation juxtaposes the isolation of the individuals with the overwhelming power of the natural world, but also references the societal change that has occurred due to the resettlement program from the 50s to the 70s.
The work serves as a reminder of an historical event and its ever lasting effect on the population. Most Newfoundlanders have had to move to the capital, leaving their homes behind and the few isolated communities that stayed behind, were neglected and forgotten. The work is presented as an archive of government policies.
